ABOUT DEIRDRE!
Deirdre Cheek Lynch is a proud native of Greensboro, North Carolina where she gained a strong spiritual foundation from her mother and her Wells Memorial Church of God In Christ roots and a strong sense of self and self-determination from her father.
Deirdre has a servant’s heart and is a natural born encourager – always finding the silver lining in any situation. Her life’s motto is “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain.” Knowing from an early age that her true passion was law, justice and advocating on behalf of others, Deirdre decided to attend law school while simultaneously balancing a demanding full-time consulting career where she was climbing the management ranks and being recognized for her innovative leadership skills.
After law school graduation, Deirdre has forged a dynamic and diverse career providing legal advice to Fortune 500 companies, non-profit entities and state government. Deirdre currently serves as an Associate General Counsel for the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) where she advises on administrative and regulatory matters that impact the Commission, the utility companies and everyday citizens. Representing the PSC, Deirdre has served on Maryland’s Governor Advisory Board for Telecommunications Relay for the past four years.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Oberlin College, a Master of Science Degree in Public Policy and Management from the H. John Heinz School of Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, a Juris Doctorate from American University’s Washington College of Law and a Certificate of Ministry from Calvary Bible Institute. Deirdre was recently invited to participate in the 2022 Juneteenth Cohort of the Drum Major for Justice Public Theology certificate program with Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary.
Deirdre has been blessed to participate in and lead many business and ministry-related initiatives. In 2009, she was selected as one of fifteen lawyers for the Maryland State Bar Association’s Leadership Academy Fellows Program, a year-long program designed to assist lawyers to become better leaders in the profession and in the community. Deirdre is proud of the Stories of My Father Storybook Project initiative that she and her Leadership Academy Fellows created which provide an opportunity for incarcerated fathers at Maryland Jessup Correctional Institution to digitally record them reading donated children’s books that are sent monthly to their children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews as a means to help maintain and strengthen family bonds.
In 2015, Deirdre collaborated with the National African American Male Wellness Initiative in bringing to the Nation’s Capital a wellness initiative focused primarily on improving and promoting the health of African American men that resulted in an inaugural walk-a-thon and health fair hosting more than 500 participants and vendors. As a strong proponent of education, one of Deirdre’ greatest joys is leading her church’s Women of Virtue Scholarship Ministry, which is dedicated to promoting higher education and professional development among members especially by assisting the next generation through scholarships to pursue their college dreams.
